Karachi Ruins Heritage, Lahore Replicates It

The renovation of Burns Road has been unapproved by the Cultural Department and is a violation of the Sindh Heritage (Preservation) Act 1994

During the past few weeks, Karachiites have seen the buildings located at the famous Burns Road in Karachi being painted in bright colors in conflict with the original color and shape of the cultural heritage in the city but in Lahore at Shah Alam gate, a new building has been constructed such that it resembles the adjoining heritage buildings in the city.

Karachi city’s historic Burns Road has been renovated and designated for the pedestrians to make it a new food street and to provide comfort to the visitors and the decision got lauded by the citizens.

However, the renovation has said to be unapproved by the Cultural Department and was considered as a violation of the Sindh Heritage (Preservation) Act 1994.

“The original color and shape of cultural heritage cannot be changed,” said the department.

The paint on the buildings, which was part of the renovation process, has ruined the real essence of the heritage in the city.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, a building has been constructed in the city of Lahore at Shah Alam gate that amalgamates beautifully with the heritage buildings in the neighborhood.
