Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is Bearing the Brunt of Leading PDM
The sun of power set on Maulana and his staunch opponent incumbent Prime Minister Imran Khan formed the government
Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Head Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is bearing the brunt of leading the movement against the government as his party split and he came under the radar of the accountability watchdog.
Jamiat-e-Ulema Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman gained limelight in 2002 when he was chosen to lead the alliance of religious parties, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).
Since then, he has been procuring political advantages as after Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) came into power after winning 2007 polls, he was appointed as the chairman of the Kashmir Committee while enjoying a share in the government with ministries too.
MMA was restored in 2012, a year before the general elections in 2013.
Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) secured the highest number of seats in the polls and formed the government.
However, it didn’t change anything for Maulana Fazl as he extended relations with ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and continued serving as the chairman of the Kashmir Committee.
Along with this, JUI-F also benefitted from ministries in the center.
However, the sun of power set on Maulana and his staunch opponent incumbent Prime Minister Imran Khan formed the government.
Maulana made several attempts probably to break a deal with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government as he marched towards Islamabad and staged a sit-in.
However, the sit-in turned out to be futile as he had to return from the federal capital without gaining anything except the signatures of the government officials on the agreement.
As the anti-government sentiment gained momentum once again, Maulana Fazl was chosen as the head of PDM.
Since then, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has mired in troubles as he misjudged the political scenario.
A new faction has been formed in his party which has filed a petition against JUI-F for using JUI’s name that originally belonged to them.
Meanwhile, the ruling PTI has moved against JUI-F in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to track its foreign funding sources.
