Hatred & Bias Run Amok in Modi’s India
Apart from all bungle attempts by Modi government to control the ongoing situation, Indian government seems to have no control over mounting international pressure
With thousands of farmers on roads and months of ongoing protests, the Republic of India seems beyond retrieval and the clapped-out Modi government is making fumble decisions to control the situation with unjust arrests and forceful blocking of Twitter accounts.
Striving to control ongoing social trends in support of the farmers, the Indian government threatened Twitter to block the suspected accounts.
The government maintained that the posts have been spreading misinformation in the country.
American social networking site received the notice of non-compliance that threatens the executives with seven years of jail and whooping fines.
The Modi government had demanded to block hundreds of accounts as it alleged those to be backed by Pakistan.
As per the Indian Minister of Communications and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad, “We respect social media a lot, it has empowered common people. However, if social media is misused to spread fake news, and violence then action will be taken”.
The mounting pressure on the microblogging site from the Indian government resulted in a temporary shut down of around 97% of the accounts flagged for spreading fibs.
Earlier, while suspending around 500 accounts, Twitter maintained that it has not blocked the accounts of news media entities, journalists, activists, and politicians as it can violate their right to free expression.
Similarly, an unjust arrest of a comedian, Munawar Faruqui, took place following a complaint by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
BJP objected that the comedian made offensive remarks about Hindu deities during a show.
Munawar was granted interim bail after spending more than a month in jail while a number of prominent figures called out in his support.
However, on the other side, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer had to put forward an explanation after his resignation as Uttarakhand coach following the allegations against him.

Apart from all the bungle attempts by the Modi government to control the ongoing situation, the Indian government seems to have no control over mounting international pressure.

In a segment titled If You Don’t Know, Now You Know, the host presented a condensed report on the reasons farmers are protesting and how the Modi government is trying to handle the situation.
