Trump Acquitted From Impeachment by Votes of “Cowardly”

United States (US) former president Donald Trump for the second time in a year was acquitted by the US Senate in the impeachment trial of inciting a revolt on Capitol Hill with 57-43 votes.

With seven Republican senators’ votes, the senate vote fell short to reach a two-thirds majority to charge Trump with incitement of insurrection.

The results of the vote showed that the former President still has a strong grip on the Republican Party and as Trump hinted a number of times, his politics has not ended yet.

“This has been yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of our country”, said Mr. Trump.

“No President has ever gone through anything like it”, he added.

However, on the other side, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed her wrath by calling the group of Republicans “cowardly” who voted to acquit Trump.

“What we saw in that Senate today was a cowardly group of Republicans who apparently have no options because they are afraid to defend their job”, she maintained.

Donald Trump has been the first president in US history who acquitted impeachment twice.

The former president was first impeached by the House of Representatives for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress in 2019.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden in a statement after the vote maintained that democracy is fragile and must be defended.

“This sad chapter in our history has reminded us that democracy is fragile. That it must always be defended. That we must be ever vigilant. That violence and extremism have no place in America. And that each of us has a duty and responsibility as Americans, and especially as leaders, to defend the truth and to defeat the lies”, he expressed.
