Taimur Jhagra is Keen to Redefine Image of a Politician

Most of the political workers who reach the parliament are not educated and do not envision a bright future for upcoming generations

The banter between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance and Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra and a senior journalist indicates that the former wants to redefine the existing image of a politician in Pakistan.

It all started with a statement by the minister as he shared that the federal government was not bearing the burden of erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Dawn KP Editor Ismail Khan endorsed what Jhagra said and praised that not on the related issue, the health minister makes sense on many other things.

But, the Dawn editor picked out that being not a ‘politician’ was the biggest misfortune of Taimur Jhagra.

However, the minister came back with a witty reply and replied that he has come into politics to redefine the definition of a politician in the country.

Apparently, Taimur tried to make a point that the politicians in actuality were exactly like he was but the definition has been maligned in Pakistan as many unscrupulous elements joined politics and the educated ones distanced themselves.

Taimur likely wants to change the painted image of politicians in people’s minds.

Generally, the notion of a politician in the country revolves around involvement in misdeeds and dishonesty.

Most of the political workers who reach the parliament are not educated and do not envision a bright future for upcoming generations.

Instead, they are wily for their aims, and the protection of public interests never matters to them.

Besides, most of the legislators come from feudal backgrounds and without going through the learning process at the grassroots.

However, Taimur Jhagra isn’t one of them. He is composed, literate, well-read, and well-informed. Unlike, a crowd of politicians in Pakistan who do not fulfill the criteria of being one and use politics to acquire personal gains.

Many of them are generally disliked for their activities including abuse of power as well as involvement in illegal activities.

But, Taimur Jhagra seems to be one of those in the country who is willing to redefine the image of a politician in the public eye.
