What Pakistanis Searched on Google in 2020? Its Not Porn!
Over the past few years, the search for pornographic content remained in the top searches in Pakistan
The coronavirus pandemic altered multiple trends and it changed the course of Google search trends as well. In the preceding year, Pakistanis shunned hunting for pornographic content and opted for constructive things including ‘kids home activities’, mental-health, etc as per google searches report 2020.
An annual report titled “What is Pakistan Searching for?” subsumes the searching trends over the year and highlights what was searched the most by users across the country.
Over the past few years, the search for pornographic content remained in the top searches in Pakistan.
However, during a pandemic-induced year, the trends took a major flip and Pakistani internet users searched for constructive activities.
The report underscored five key trends that formed the search behavior of Pakistanis during 2020. They were categorized as “individual matters”, “higher purpose”, “whole selves,” “sweet relief” and “future-proofing”.
Google Asia Pacific South Asia Industry Head Faraz Azhar told that a 41% rise was recorded in searches for sadqa in 2020.
The report said a massive growth of over 250% was recorded for ‘kids home activities’ due to the closure of schools amid the pandemic situation.
At least a 71 % increase was witnessed in the searching keyword ‘how to be productive’ as Pakistanis strived for self-development while spending most of their time at homes amid lockdown restrictions.
The year 2020 saw a 328% increase in ‘dubbed in Urdu’ as many web series gained massive viewership in Pakistan.
The searches for ‘mental health support’ doubled in 2020 as the people stayed at homes and recreation was almost eliminated while a 109% increase was recorded in searches for ‘disease prevention’.

The google searches by Pakistanis for the keyword ‘reusable’ soared by 128% while ‘charity work’ saw an increase of 122% in 2020.
The coronavirus brought humans close to nature too as a 700% surge was recorded in searches for the keyword ‘adopt a pet’ while a140% in searches for ‘easy desert’ as people tried home-made sweet dishes.
A 233% increase was recorded in ‘stocks investing’ as Pakistanis sought additional income sources.
