Pvt Channels Manifest Frivolous Attitude For Kashmir

With mounting tension over the Kashmir dispute every day, private channels in Pakistan prefer to carry on with their frivolous attitude. Chairman of the Committee Shehryar Khan Afridi expressed indignation over the absence and directed Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to take action against the channel owners.

Expressing his concerns, Shehryar Afridi inquired PEMRA Chairman whether any policy regarding Kashmir has been formulated for the private channels.

However, PEMRA Chief was unable to satisfy the convener with his answer.

Dismayed by the response, Shehray Afridi grilled the regulatory authority chairman about the content private channels prepared for Kashmir Day.

He made it mandatory for the channels’ representatives to attend the next meeting in regards to the issue.

Whereas, PEMRA maintained that a few channels are highlighting the burning issue of Kashmir.

However, show-cause-notices were issued to the channels that didn’t show solidarity on Kashmir Day with a black logo.

The panel reviewed the content being aired on electronic and social media. Afridi argued that the suicide of an Indian actor trended on Twitter in Pakistan in previous months.

In contrast with having firm knowledge over the dispute, youth in Pakistan is engrossed in filthy dramas and irrelevant content, he added.

Moreover, the regional head of Twitter George Salama virtually attended the meeting and maintained that the networking site discourages hate speech.

In response to a question by Shehryar Afridi, George said Kashmiri activists are free to raise their voices with legitimate accounts.

The panel expressed serious concerns over the issue ad maintained that Twitter has double standards as no action was taken against Indian agents posting tweets aimed at inciting hate and violence in Pakistan.

“We are working closely with PTA to ensure equal opportunities to social media users”, George responded to Afridi.
