Imran Khan’s Vote Went Waste in Senate Elections?

Geo News correspondent shared unauthenticated information that the vote of Prime Minister Imran Khan has been wasted

Geo News made a clumsy mistake when the news about the secret vote of Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Senate elections going wasted occupied all chyrons on the screen but it turned out that information was invalid.

However, was Imran Khan’s vote really wasted in Senate elections?

In a bid to break the news first, Geo was keeping an eagle eye on the results of the Senate elections as they come with its panel comprising of anchorpersons including Muhammad Junaid and Shahzad Iqbal.

However, in a haste, the reporter of the channel Waqar Satti shared unauthenticated information that the vote of Prime Minister Imran Khan has been wasted.

It had to be just spewed by the reporter and it occupied the chyrons of the channel until the panelist Shahzad Iqbal pointed out how a secret vote could be identified unless the voter confirmed it.

Muhammad Junaid also tweeted about it without thinking of the secrecy aspect or waiting for confirmation from the reporter.

A silence followed and the correspondent Waqar Satti was approached again and asked if he had validated it.

The reporter responded that he was delivered this information by PPP’s polling agent MNA Syed Naveed Qamar.

Satti contended that Qamar told him that the Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul cast the vote exactly the same way as Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Her vote was incorrectly filed and therefore, it was consequent that Imran Khan’s vote was also wasted.

When News360 contacted Waqar Satti and asked if he had confirmed the information with Zartaj Gul or PTI’s polling agent, he confessed that he didn’t.

In a video later issued, Waqat Satti narrated why he shared the news.

He said, “After casting the vote, Zartaj Gul was asked if she had done it correctly, the minister replied that she not only cast the vote but signed it too”.

He continued, “At this, PTI’s polling agent interrupted that it didn’t need to be signed”. Gul replied, “ Even the prime minister has signed the ballot paper”.

After receiving unauthenticated information from PPP’s polling agent and without validating it with either PTI’s polling agent or the state minister, Waqar Satti reported it to the channel that put it in the spotlight without confirming if Imran Khan’s vote was really wasted in the Senate elections.

Unless it was pointed out by one of the panelists “How can a secret vote be traced?”
