CM’s Remarks Triggered ‘Ripped Jeans’ Trend in India

After the video of Rawat's remarks on the woman wearing ripped jeans went viral, Twitter users condemned the mentality of Uttarakhand CM

The newly-elected Uttarakhand Chief Minister (CM) Tirath Singh Rawat triggered #RippedJeansTwitter trend on Twitter after his video from an event went viral during which he made controversial remarks about women who wear ripped jeans. 

In the video, CM explained the whole scenario of meeting a woman who was on board with him on a flight.

Rawat quoted that the lady was a social worker and belonged to a reputable and financially sound background.

He expressed that such attire worn by a woman didn’t reflect Indian values and became a source of negativity besides tarnishing the image of society.

After the video of Rawat’s remarks on women wearing ripped jeans went viral, several males and females Twitter users in India condemned the mentality of the government official.

The female users started posting their pictures wearing ripped jeans with hashtags #GirlsWhoWearRippedJeans #Ripped JeansTiwtter.

Moreover, Bollywood movie star Kangana Ranaut joined the league too by sharing some of her photos from different events where she donned ripped jeans.

The actress sarcastically advised her followers to style their ripped jeans in a way that society didn’t depict as their poor financial state.

Interestingly, history recalls between 1980 and 2000, instead of a fashion statement, the ripped jeans were a result of over-wearing by less fortunate who couldn’t afford a pair of denim jeans.
