KP to Facilitate Coronavirus Treatment Via Sehat Card

Sehat Insaf Card Program was rolled out in a few districts of the province last year but it was later expanded to the whole province

The coronavirus infected patients in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will get treatment cost covered under Sehat Insaf Card which the masses believe is not less than a blessing.

The Sehat Insaf Card Program was rolled out in a few districts of the province last year but it was later expanded to the whole KP covering Rs 1 million health insurance for a family.

KP Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra said that the usage of Sehat Card had risen sharply particularly in the merged tribal areas.

Drawing a comparison, he added more than 900 people in the province were using Sehat Card in both public and private hospitals every month compared to 90 previously.

Jhagra said the private sector was included in the program to widen treatment facilities for the masses.

The minister said that although there were some issues in the public hospitals, many of them were still at par with private hospitals.

Jhagra said that the healthcare system was under pressure in different districts of the province including Mardan, Peshawar, and Swat during the third wave of coronavirus.

Jhagra said that they were making efforts to add 200 beds in 10 hospitals in these districts.

The minister said that the initiative would be extremely beneficial for the poor people who were unable to afford coronavirus treatment privately as a shortage of beds had developed in the public healthcare facilities.

Masses laud govt

The people of KP lauded the government for the inclusion of coronavirus treatment in the Sehat Card Program.

However, they believe that the rapid spread of contagion amid the third wave was a big challenge.

A patient said that he went under cardiac surgery and all expenses were covered under health insurance.

Nurses’ protest

In parallel, the nurses from across KP have been protesting outside the provincial assembly for fulfillment of their demands for the last three days.

The nurses demanded promotion service structure, paid vacations, pension benefits, and opportunities for career progression, etc.

They wore black armbands and held placards inscribed with anti-government slogans.

They have boycotted the services in all public hospitals across KP until their demands were met.
