In a rare incident in Russia, a team of doctors performed open-heart surgery in a hospital blazing with fire in the country’s Far East while firefighters put out the fire from outside.

“There’s nothing else we could do. We had to save the person. We did everything at the highest level”, surgeon Valentin Filatov told the media.

It took more than two hours for firefighters to blow out the fire in hospital and they used fans to keep the smoke out of the surgery room on the ground floor.

A separate power cable was managed to supply the theatre with electricity to conclude the procedure successfully.

As per the ministry of emergencies, a group of eight doctors and nurses completed the operation in two hours before removing the patient to another site.

The ministry maintained that the fire erupted on roof of the hospital and around 128 patients were immediately evacuated.

As per the details shared by the ministry, the century-old building was built in 1907.

“The fire spread like lightning through the wooden ceilings of the roof”.

However, the fire was smoothly snuffed out without any casualties and local authorities have announced awards for the firefighters along with the medical staff.
