Pakistan Recorded Over 300 Deaths in Last Three Days

Around 5,329 positive cases surfaced only yesterday and over 100 deaths were reported for the consecutive second day on Wednesday

The third and deadliest wave of coronavirus is an alarming one for Pakistan with the positivity ratio jumping up to 10.7% with 303 deaths collectively in the last three days while 98 fatalities reported just during the last 24 hours.

As per details by the Ministry of National Health Services, about 49,816 tests for coronavirus were conducted and 5,329 cases returned positive on Wednesday.

Over 100 deaths were reported on Monday and Tuesday in Pakistan.

According to data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), as many as 4,529 patients were admitted to hospitals across the country of which 443 were on ventilators.

The data also updated that the number of active cases continue to rise and the tally reached 66,994 in the last 24 hours.

Despite the sounding alarm, Pakistanis are blithely flouting the precautionary guidelines defined by the government to combat the pathogen.

On the other hand, the third wave is reportedly more deleterious for infants and children below the age of 12.

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Joint Executive Director Dr Minhajus Siraj told he had no scientific study to prove that the new variant was infecting children more, reported Dawn.

“However, it is a fact that during the first wave we did not admit a single person less than 30 years of age. During the second wave, patients were over 12 years of age but now, during the third wave, we are receiving even infants,” the report read.
