Young Poetess Kiran Waqar Died Pleading Facilities

Before passing away, the poetess had taken to her Facebook account to draw attention of authorities towards abysmal conditions at Okara DHQ

A day later after her brother’s death, the young poetess, writer, and columnist Kiran Waqar died at a private hospital in Lahore on Sunday as she succumbed to coronavirus owing to dearth of facilities at Okara district headquarters hospital (DHQ).

The acute shortage of basic facilities such as oxygen which is a primary requirement in coronavirus treatment displays the poor performance of the government which has claimed to provide the best healthcare facilities at all public hospitals across the province amid the pandemic virus.

Before passing away, the poetess had taken to her Facebook account to draw the attention of authorities towards abysmal conditions at healthcare facility.

“Here is no oxygen and no care, tell me which hospital to go to for better treatment”, she wrote in her Facebook post.

A day later, Kiran and her brother were shifted to a private hospital in Lahore where both of them passed away with a day’s gap.

The young literary figure was a mother of an infant girl.

The famous personalities including senior journalist Hamid Mir and singer Jawad Ahmad expressed grievances on the death of young poetess and flayed the provincial government.

Situation in Punjab worsens

Further, the Punjab province is the new hotspot of the pandemic virus as 2,021 positive cases were reported during the past 24 hours with 16 fatalities.

Complete lockdown on cards

Meanwhile, Punjab Health Minister Yasmin Rashid said in television programs that the provincial government would suggest imposing a two-week-long complete lockdown in Lahore owing to the high positivity rate in the next meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
