PPP, ANP Leave PDM Startled With Latest Cunning Moves

PPP sent resignations of its members from PDM’s posts to its chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman after ANP, which had already announced to quit PDM on April 6

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Awami National Party (ANP) stalemated the remaining eight parties in Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) by playing smartly.

PPP sent resignations of its members from PDM’s posts to its chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman after ANP, which had already announced to quit the alliance on April 6.

ANP had claimed that the opposition alliance was hijacked and that small parties did not have a say.

PPP had secured the offices of PDM’s vice-president and its two members were part of the steering committee.

The differences between PPP and ANP group and other PDM parties emerged over the matter of en masse resignations.

Both parties had maintained that the opposition parties should cause trouble for the government by staying in the parliament.

However, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat-e-Ulema Fazl (JUI-F) were insistent about quitting from the assemblies and then taking out a long march on Islamabad.

The rifts deepened after Yousaf Raza Gillani received votes from Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), which is part of the government coalition, to become the opposition leader in Senate.

Following this, PPP received a show-cause notice which eventually led it to its resignation from the opposition bloc.

However, PDM Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman wants both parties to reverse their decisions.

But, after bidding farewell to PDM, both parties have opened the option for PML-N and JUI-F to resign from assemblies as they believed it to be the last resort against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

In another development, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) Head Pir Pagara Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi yesterday to offer condolences over the death of his wife.

The political observers believe that Bilawal has decided to take an aggressive mode and therefore, he may foster relations with his opponents in Sindh to give PTI government hard time.
