PSL 6 Replay Could be an Imprudent Decision

Completion of suspended event will thus be a challenge amid the coronavirus situation in Pakistan as well as a threat of virus spread among players

The replay of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 amid soaring coronavirus cases could be an imprudent decision taken in haste.

PSL 6 arranged virtual drafting for the remaining matches of PSL 6 scheduled in June this year.

However, many are seeing the replay of the tournament as an imprudent decision citing the previous record of protocols’ breach.

The completion of the suspended event will thus be a challenge amid the coronavirus situation in Pakistan as well as a threat of virus spread among the participants.

Earlier, PSL management had failed to secure the bio-secure bubble and the breach had led to contraction of the virus by players and staff members owing to which the league was postponed in March this year.

IPL attracts criticism

Currently, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is under fire for arranging and continuing the tournament despite the scary covid-19 condition in India when over 0.3 million new cases are being reported every day.

Even the Indian cricket fans have criticized the players who are part of the tournament. IPL matches are being played in New Delhi where daily tally of cases is climbing unruly and a lockdown is enforced there.

The publications including New Indian Express, The Morning Standard, and the Sunday Standard have suspended coverage of the cricket event.

Ignorant of the events across the border, organizing PSL when the cases are soaring in Pakistan amid the third wave could be an imprudent choice and a tool to attract public wrath.

The league rounds in IPL would end on May 23 while the final would be played on May 30.

But, Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison ruled out prioritizing Australian players in returning home and they would have to return like normal citizens once the league was over.

The country has suspended flights from India following the harrowing covid-19 situation until May 15.

The demand for a special chartered flight at the culmination of the tournament was declined.
