Karachi Jewelry Store Looted in Year’s Biggest Gold Heist

Owner of the jewelry store told police officials that the incident took place when the shutters were down

Inarguably the biggest heist of the city this year, a jewelry store in Karachi was robbed by unidentified suspects who managed to scoop nearly 12 kilograms (kgs) of gold worth over Rs100 million.

Considered the biggest of the year in Karachi, the gold heist took place near Teen Talwar roundabout in city’s posh locality of Clifton at a time when the jewelry store was closed.

The case against the incident was registered on the complaint of store owner Mohammad Asif in the Clifton police station.

The owner informed police officials that the outlet was closed when the incident took place. He told the store deals in buying and selling ready-made gold ornaments and bricks.

Upon returning to the shop on Tuesday morning, the owner found out all four locks were broken. According to the details provided by the shop owner, nearly 12 kgs of gold was scooped by the thieves.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Javed Akber said the police were informed about the incident with delay.

“There is only one entrance for the market which is kept locked and around four watchmen guard the door all time”, DIG said.

He added that the police were carrying out investigation against the incident and assured that the suspects would be arrested soon.
