Messi Under Fire For Covid Protocols Breach in BBQ Party

Spanish media claimed that Messi invited his Barcelona teammates including their wives and girlfriends ahead of club’s match with Atletico Madrid

A covid-protocols-breach barbeque arranged for his teammates by football star Lionel Messi may land him and his club in deep trouble. La Liga has banned the assembly of more than six people, indoor and outdoor, owing to the pandemic situation.

Spanish media claimed that Messi invited his Barcelona teammates including their wives and girlfriends ahead of the club’s match with Atletico Madrid on Saturday in a breach of covid-19 protocols.

But, the severe breach of covid-19 protocols is being investigated by Spanish League La Liga officials.

The media reports said that party caught the attention of the neighbors when the guests chanted slogans.

It was reported that BBQ party was thrown by the football star at his Castelldefels property.

However, the Barcelona club denied allegations of covid-19 protocols breach and said all guests were already in the bio-secure bubble.

The club officials maintained that the party was arranged in the open air, outside the living space, and participants adhered to social distancing protocols.

What happens next

If found guilty, the magnitude of penalty on the team or Messi in specific is still not defined as there is no precedent set for punishment over breach of covid-19.

In May 2020, four players of Sevilla club enjoyed a barbeque and La Liga had pledged strict action against the footballers.

However, the players tendered a public apology after which they were excused.
