Once again, Pakistani-origin Sadiq Khan is making headlines for his second consecutive win as London mayor against the candidate of Conservative Party whose leader is the incumbent Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The 50-year-old mayor is the first Muslim to lead a major Western capital since 2016.

This time, Sadiq Khan remained victorious with 55.2% votes compared with 44.8% of opponent Shaun Bailey.

Khan promised to continue his campaign that focuses on creating jobs and boosting London’s tourism economy.

The Labour party leader, who has risen from a modest background to spar with the country’s top politicians, has been vocal on Brexit and many other important issues.

Taking to his Twitter handle, London Mayor thanked his supporters who had voted for him.

Soon after the results were announced, many UK officials including the former co-chairwoman of the Conservative Party Sayeeda Warsi felicitated the second-time mayor and marked the win as a remarkable journey for a bus driver’s son.

After his second victory, many are predicting that Sadiq Khan could be the UK’s next head prime minister like Boris Johnson, who had served as the mayor of London thrice before occupying the office in 2019.
