KP Leads The Race to Facilitate Sandwich Class of Province

The efforts of the KP government have pushed forward a perception that the province is leading against others for the well-being of the social class

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is leading the race to facilitate the sandwich class in the province compared to other provinces.

On May 26, KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan announced to increase the salaries of government employees by 25%. The change will become effective from June 1.

The chief minister also announced a Rs 4,000 raise in salaries of daily-wage government employees after which their pay will escalate to Rs 21,000 from Rs 17,000.

KP CM Mahmood Khan took to his Twitter account and said that the provincial government went down that road, despite financial challenges, to ameliorate the living standard of the citizens.

The efforts of the KP government are being praised widely and it has pushed forward a perception that the province is leading against others for the wellbeing of its sandwich class.

Province-wide health coverage

In February 2021, KP became the first province in the country to give free health coverage to its locals.

Under the initiative, around 40 million families in KP would receive health insurance of up to Rs 1 million every year.

Following his footsteps, the Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had recently announced a 25% special allowance for the government employees from basic pay scale (BPS) 1 to 19.

Interestingly, both provinces are ruled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but the federal government, where the same party is in power, has not given an increment to its employees for the past two years.
