Possible Demolition of Illegal Sites Vex Karachities

Chief justice marked the city as 'unplanned' and directed authorities to submit a report on anti-encroachment drive within three months

The orders of the Supreme Court (SC) to abolish all illegal establishments in Karachi have sparked fury, protests, and violence.

Two days earlier, an anti-encroachment drive at Pavilion End Club and Aladin Park triggered a clash between police and shopkeepers.

Moreover, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed added Nasla Tower to the list of structures that must be razed down within three days and directed authorities to submit a report of entire encroachment drive within three months.

On the sprawl of illegal constructions in Karachi, CJ remarked that the city didn’t have a master plan and blamed the authorities for being busy minting money.

Further, the top court issued show-cause notices to the South City Hospital and Ziauddin Hospital for operating on amenity plots.

In regards to SC’s orders, News360 talked to the affected citizens who would lose their homes in the anti-encroachment operation.

The possible deprivation from roofs will be the last straw for the residents of Karachi and they blamed Sindh government, political parties, and building authorities for doing dirty politics under the table and causing all trouble.

They condemned that the representatives beg for votes at the time of elections but they don’t keep their promises.

The exasperated protesters questioned why the authorities are coming to knock down their homes when they have paid huge amounts to get lease documents.

The demonstrators demanded either an extended deadline to vacate their houses or the allotment of a new site for the shelter.
