With scorching temperatures in most cities of Pakistan, unannounced and prolonged power outages have added insult to the injury despite the surplus production of electricity.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has also summoned a report from the distribution companies in regards to the electricity shortfall despite surplus production in Pakistan.

The authority asserted that all the power distribution companies are obliged to provide an uninterrupted and reliable supply to their consumers.
Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar claimed weeks back that the energy shortfall was due to some maintenance work at a major hydroelectric power plant and it would be back within 4 to 6 days.
He also claimed that the country had surplus power but the outage continues.
News360 interviewed citizens of Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar who were of the view that the power load-shedding has ballooned up to 10 to 12 hours daily.
Speaking on the dilemma, the locals of Lahore maintained that the scorching weather that too without power supply has worsened their difficulties.
The citizens of Peshawar blamed the incumbent government for the crisis and requested the authorities to give importance to the grave issue.
“Electricity is available in our area for not more than 2 to 3 hours and we have to manage the remaining hours without it”, a resident of Peshawar added.
Another local was of the view that almost all cities in Pakistan are suffering due to the shortfall and appealed prime minister of Pakistan to weigh up the issue.
