Life Jackets & Boats to Save Flooded Karachi This Monsoon
Last year, the metropolitan city witnessed the worst flooding since 1931 as the deadly spell of rain killed at least 41 residents
The monsoon rain spell in Karachi is expected to begin mid-July and in this regard, Karachi Police has launched the Urban Flooding Rescue Unit equipped with life jackets and boats to rescue the stranded citizens.
Last year, the metropolitan city witnessed the worst flooding since 1931 as the deadly spell of rain killed at least 41 residents and many lost their valuable items.
This year, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has already alarmed the citizens and concerned departments, especially K-Electric, to take necessary measures ahead of the monsoon spell.

The emergency services division of police is making an effort to help the citizens reach their destinations safely in case of heavy rainfall and deluge.
Karachi Police Head of Security and Emergency Services Division Maqsood Memon told the media, “We have adopted this innovative approach to help citizens in flood situation”.
The police rescue unit demonstrated its capability to rescue the people trapped in urban flooding in a mock drill at Karachi’s Manora Island.
Looking at the progress, one of the officials assured that the three-week training session has prepared the squad to tackle any contingency or flooding situation in the city.
Moreover, the trainers said that they can rescue the affected person within 5 minutes and they are competent to swim in a depth of 20-30 feet.
One of the police officers added the rescue unit is also responsible to guard the residents of low-lying areas with its special boats and life jackets during the monsoon season in Karachi.
