The contract between Barcelona and the football star expired in June this year and Messi was considering other options

The breaths of Barcelona fans have certainly been taken away after learning that Lionel Messi will exit his childhood club.

FC Barcelona said they had reached an agreement with the Argentine regarding the contract but the economic woes emerged as a hurdle in the deal.

The development has shaken the football fans around the world and Messi is also trending top on Twitter in Pakistan.

The ace footballer was diagnosed with growth hormone disorder (GHD). However, Barcelona signed the best deal in history by including the 13-year-old in the club.

The Spanish club became Messi’s football nursery and he made his debut in November 2003 at the age of 16. He has scored 672 goals in 778 appearances for the Catalan club in all competitions.

The contract between Barcelona and Messi expired in June this year and since then, he was considering other options. However, Barcelona remained persistent that the foot-magician wanted to stay with them.

Barcelona and Messi were supposed to strike a new five-year deal in which his salary would have reduced to half as the club was required to meet La Liga’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Back in 2013, La Liga introduced financial control measures under which it determined the maximum amount of money each club can spend on its squad and coaching staff each season.

Lionel Messi’s contract was worth around €555 million or $673 million and it was termed as the most lucrative.

The athlete had attempted to exit the club in August 2020 after his terms with ex-President Josep Maria Bartomeu deteriorated but he was retained.

The free agent is likely to be signed by French Club Paris St Germain (PSG) or British Club Manchester City.

The media reports said PSG immediately contacted Messi after the exit announcement came from Barcelona.

However, the king’s ransom value of the football star at his childhood club would be a challenge for anyone looking to get one of the best players in the history of the sports.
