Amjad Saqib, the founder of the Akhuwat Foundation, has received the Ramon Magsaysay Award, popularly known as the Nobel Prize of Asia, and is the 10th Pakistani to get it.

The founder of Akhuwat Foundation is the 10th Pakistani to receive the ‘Nobel Prize of Asia’.
Pakistani recipients of the Ramon Magsaysay Award include Akhtar Hameed Khan in 1963, Abdul Sattar Edhi and Bilquis Edhi in 1986, Shoaib Sultan Khan in 1992, Asma Jahangir in 1995, Adeeb-ul-Hasan Rizvi in 1998, Tasneem Ahmed Siddiqui in 1999, Ruth Pfau in 2002, Ibn Abdur Rehman in 2004 and The Citizens Foundation in 2014.
What Akhuwat Foundation does?
The non-governmental organization (NGO) is endeavoring to create a poverty-free society by providing interest-free loans based on the concept of Qarz-e-Hasna.
Since its inception in 2001, the organization has spread across 400 cities across Pakistan with 800 branches.
Akhuwat Foundation has so far disbursed more than 4.5 million loans among 3 million families, equivalent to Rs 128 billion or $798 million.
