John Mulaney: Olivia Munn’s Pregnancy Has ‘Saved’ Him From Himself

John Mulaney, checked into rehab for cocaine and alcohol in abuse last September, divorced his wife of seven years Anna Marie Tendler, hosted SNL‘s Halloween special, relapsed on drugs after the show, appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers belligerently wasted, had an intervention, visited rehab again then began dating actress Olivia Munn — who is now pregnant together with his child.

It’s his relationship with Munn, 41, that John Mulaney attributes his recovery to, especially because it takes him towards a replacement chapter in life. “She needs to date me right out of recovery, which is what they call a reverse catch,” John Mulaney joked. “And that’s been very incredible. And she’s quite held my hand through that hell. And we’re having a baby together.”

Meyers, 47, who is really so close with John Mulaney that he was a part of the group of family and friends who staged an intervention for John Mulaney last year, was clearly excited about the news and had some sweet sentiments.

“I’m always very happy to be your friend and I’m very happy to be in your presence and this year, I used to be lucky to spend tons of your time with you, and it had been a true roller coaster,” Meyers said. “But I’m very happy you’re on the opposite side of it. I’m so happy for you and Olivia, this is often very exciting news. I really like you considerably and I’m glad you’re doing well.”

When describing to Seth what it had been like immediately after stopping drugs, John Mulaney compared it to “Newborn Bambi legs, such as your skills Bambi’s born, Bambi’s like, ‘Hey, I wont to get on cocaine!’”

Viewers on Twitter were equally as excited for John Mulaney, sending out many good wishes.

John Mulaney had many jokes to form about being a dad, including his kid not knowing his work to wanting triplets so he can name the “ugly one” Seth, ended his appearance by sharing a sweet moment with the host, and his friend.

I love you, Seth. You know, you guys saved me from drugs. And Olivia and this baby have helped save me from me, and this early journey out of recovery,” John Mulaney said. “And, yeah, I don’t have a joke for that. I’m really grateful to you, buddy. Thank you.
