PML-N Starts Preparing For Elections Sans President Shehbaz

The absence of Shehbaz and his son Hamza seems enough to back the rumors that the party has an internal war over narrative

The rumors of divide within PML-N are fortifying as party president Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz remained absent from another key meeting aimed at preparations for the next general elections.

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and his son, Hamza Shehbaz, were not spotted in the meeting held in DG Khan.

The father and son were also absent from a similar meeting in Bahawalpur held on Wednesday.

Prior to general elections in 2023, PML-N has started to reorganize the party at Union Council (UC) level starting from the South Punjab region.

The huddle was presided over by PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif via video link and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz was also present there along with other prominent leaders.

However, the absence of Shehbaz and his son seems enough to back the rumors that the party has an internal war over narrative.

The cantonment board elections have also seen the employment of a different strategy by PML-N where it followed the narrative of ‘give respect to performance’ instead of ‘give respect to vote’.

It was not the first meeting of PML-N from which both key leaders were absent.

PML-N had held several meetings in recent months but both instrumental leaders remained out of the scene.

It is also notable that Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has not attended any key meetings of the party after getting released from Kot Lakhpat jail in April.
