Peshawar Central Prison turns into educational institution for inmates
Both the formal and religious education is being imparted to prisoners.

The Peshawar Central Prison has become an educational institution for the inmates as 2,434 prisoners had received educational degrees upto masters level. Both the formal and religious education is being imparted at the prison.
528 inmates have done matric, 273 completed intermediate, 106 earned B.A degree while 12 got master’s degree.
In Urdu literature, 190 inmates received certificates while 859 got certificates in Arabic from Allama Iqbal Open University.

Along with formal education, religious education is also being given as 414 prisoners studied “Naazra’ while 22 learnt Urdu translation of the Holy Quran.
The Peshawar Central Prison has a library for prisoners, where different types of books have been kept for prisoners.
“We are grateful to the administration that we are being provided with free education in prison, and no expenses are taken,” the prisoners said.
On the other hand, social circles have said that the administration of the jail has started an excellent work on the self-help basis. They added that the initiative will bear positive results in the future.
They urged the government to provide the educated prisoners opportunities to become good citizens of the society.
