An Indian Air Force helicopter has crashed in a mountainous area of ​​Tamil Nadu. According to Indian media, the helicopter was carrying 14 people, including Indian Chief of Defense Staff Bapan Rawat, family and staff.

According to ANI, Chief of Defense Staff General Bapan Rawat, his staff and some family members were in the MI series helicopter which crashed in the mountainous region of Coimbatore and Silver in Tamil Nadu. Rescue teams have launched a search operation.

Rescue teams have evacuated two critically injured people from the wreckage of the crashed helicopter and shifted them to a nearby hospital.

According to New Delhi officials, Chief of Defense Staff General Bapan Rawat and some members of his family left for Tamil Nadu by an Indian Air Force helicopter on Wednesday.

The Indian Air Force confirmed the news via its official Twitter handle. The tweet read: “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter carrying CDS General Bapan Rawat crashed near Connor in Tamil Nadu today. An inquiry has been ordered into the cause of the crash.”

Chief of Defense Staff General Bapan Rawat, his crew and some family members were aboard the helicopter which crashed between Coimbatore and Silver in Tamil Nadu. Defense search and rescue teams were launched from nearby bases.
