ECP all set to hold PP-206 Khanewal by-polls tomorrow

Overall 13 candidates are contesting the by-polls, however, a tough fight is expected between PTI, PML-N and PPP

KHANEWAL: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is all set to hold by-polls in the PP-206 constituency of Khanewal on Thursday (tomorrow) that is being contested by all major parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

The by-polls will be held on the vacant seat of the provincial assembly following the death of estranged PML-N lawmaker Nishat Ahmed Khan Daha. Overall 13 candidates are contesting the by-polls, however, a tough fight is expected between PTI, PML-N and PPP.

185 polling stations have been set up amid strict security arrangements of police and Rangers, whereas, 23 polling stations were declared highly sensitive. The election commission has installed CCTV cameras inside the sensitive polling stations.

Interestingly, the PML-N fielded Rana Muhammad Saleem for the upcoming by-polls who was a PTI candidate in the 2018 general elections.

On the other hand, PTI field the widow of late Nishat Ahmed Khan Daha, Munaza Perveen. The late PML-N lawmaker had defeated PTI’s Rana Saleem by a margin of 3,546 votes in the 2018 general elections.

PPP has pitched Wasiq Sirjees Haider once again in PP-206 by-polls which is considered a stronghold of PML-N.
