Race starts in PML-N to become next prime minister nominee
PML-N central leaders gave contradictory statements regarding the frontrunner for prime minister’s position
LAHORE: A race has apparently started in Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) to become the next prime minister nominee following the contradictory statements of central leaders.
The PML-N central leaders gave contradictory statements regarding the frontrunner for the prime minister’s position in the upcoming elections in the country.
In the latest development, PML-N central leader Khawaja Asif said that Shahbaz Sharif is probably the frontrunner for the premiership as all signs and messages were going in his favour. He, however, said that PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif will make the final decision.
He made these statements while talking to the Dawn News program hosted by Adil Shahzeb yesterday. Khawaja Asif said that the debate should be over after Maryam Nawaz’s statement that indicated Shahbaz Sharif as a frontrunner. He admitted that the final endorsement will be made by Nawaz Sharif.
Who is prime ministerial candidate? Rebellion started in PML-N over Shahbaz and Maryam
Asif said that Shehbaz Sharif has an all-encompassing presence over party affairs and he did not make any decisions without getting permission from Nawaz Sharif.

Yesterday, PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz answered a question, saying that the decision-maker is Nawaz Sharif and she will happily stand behind Shahbaz Sharif if PML-N Quaid takes a decision regarding him.
The PML-N senior vice-president Shahid Khaqan Abbasi told Dawn News in a programme hosted by Nadia Mirza that the party’s next frontrunner for prime minister’s position will be Shahbaz Sharif. He also said that Maryam Nawaz was not eligible to contest the polls.
On the other hand, former Sindh governor Mohammad Zubair had said in a TV program that PML-N could not win elections without the politically ambitious Maryam Nawaz and expressed hopes that she will get relief from the courts.
Moreover, Javed Latif had also hinted at a divide in PML-N leadership.
