Deepak Parwani Seeks PM’s Permission for Civil Disobedience Movement

On October 13, 2014, Prime Minister Imran Khan set fire to his house's electricity bill in protest in front of Parliament House.

Leading Pakistani fashion designer and writer Deepak Parwani has sought permission from Prime Minister Imran Khan to launch a civil disobedience movement.

Tagging Prime Minister Imran Khan and SSGC on the social networking site Twitter after the Sui Southern Gas Company’s gas bill went up, fashion designer Deepak Parwani wrote on the social networking site Twitter: If domestic gas used to come, the bill would be Rs. 2500. Now when gas is not coming, the bill is Rs. 6500.

A Twitter user named Farsad tweeted on Deepak Parwani’s tweet that “your current bill reflects more unit consumption. It could be a case of incorrect reading or meter error.

“You are right but we do not have gas even though we are using cylinders in the kitchen,” Deepak Parwani wrote in reply to Yothi.

Gibran Ashraf, a Twitter user, wrote, “At least you are not being charged for the hundred meter charges. I was slapped (over-billed) for not using the required gas.”

It may be recalled that on October 13, 2014, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and incumbent Prime Minister Imran Khan, while announcing a civil disobedience movement in front of the sit-in participants outside the House of Parliament, set fire to the electricity bill of his house in front of a packed house.
