Opposition mired in indecisiveness over strategy to topple PTI-led govt

Major opposition parties have remained indecisive over giving a clear strategy to topple PTI-led federal government.

ISLAMABAD: Amid intra-party discords, the major opposition parties have remained indecisive over giving a clear strategy to topple Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led federal government.

Opposition parties have failed to give a clear strategy to topple the PTI-led federal government despite making claims to be having a full grip on the political script.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz had claimed on Tuesday in a media talk that the ouster of the incumbent government is a matter of days following its incompetence.

He had made the statement after attending a hearing in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) yesterday. Maryam Nawaz further said that the opposition alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) will send the PTI government packing very soon.

To the questions of four PML-N leaders’ efforts to become caretaker prime ministers and Nawaz Sharif’s return, Maryam Nawaz termed it ‘fabricated news’ being spread by the government circles and said that the political party will decide on Sharif’s return to the country.

However, she did not give a clear strategy to topple the incumbent government whether it would choose the option of no-confidence motion or joint protests to build political pressure with all opposition parties.

The statement came forth when names of over four PML-N central leaders had surfaced who are willing to become caretaker prime minister.

Yesterday, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also addressed a press conference in Islamabad in which he said that the incumbent government must be dislodged through a no-confidence motion.

He had also hinted at rejoining the PDM on a condition if it drops its proposal to tender resignations from the assemblies besides being stood united on bringing the no-confidence motion.

Bilawal had said that PPP’s long march to Islamabad on February 27 will mount pressure on the PTI-led federal government but urged the opposition parties to play their roles to get rid of the incompetent government.

The PPP chairman, however, did not give a clear stance on how the opposition parties will gather on the same agenda to bring a no-confidence motion. The PPP circles had openly expressed their willingness to see Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari as the caretaker premier after the ouster of the PTI government.

It may be noted that in response to the long march against the PTI government, the ruling political party had recently announced to hold a protest rally in the PPP stronghold from Ghotki to Karachi in Sindh along with the opposition parties in Sindh.
