Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas say ‘overjoyed to welcome a baby’

Versatile Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have confirmed becoming parents via sharing their family news on Instagram on Friday for having a baby via surrogate.

Nick Jonas wrote on Instagram, “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family.”

Priyanka Chopra posted the same words, however, both of them did not share the baby’s name or sex.

39-year-old Priyanka Chopra and 29-year-old Nick Jonas had married in 2018 in India. They made their romance public in 2018 after the couple had first met in 2017 and engaged after just four months of dating.

Baby born in a SoCal hospital

According to Dailymail UK, the baby girl, who was born via surrogate, arrived at 27 weeks at a Southern California hospital outside LA, where she’ll remain until she is healthy enough to return home with her parents, a source close to the couple said.

The report quoted the insider as saying that the A-list couple had been wanting to have a baby together for ‘quite sometime,’ but their schedules had gotten in the way of their family planning.

They eventually contacted an agency to explore their options and were connected them with a woman in SoCal who they believed was a good match.

‘Priyanka doesn’t have any fertility issues preventing her from having a baby, but she is 39 now so it’s not getting any easier,’ the source said.

‘Their busy work schedules also mean that it’s difficult for them to physically be together to conceive when she is ovulating, so some time ago they went down the surrogacy route.

‘This is the woman’s fifth surrogacy. They met her and really liked her.

‘The baby had been due in April but the surrogate ended up giving birth on Sunday, so she was very premature,’ the insider added.

The baby girl and the surrogate are currently in hospital and Nick and Priyanka are waiting for the baby to be healthy enough to move to a hospital in Los Angeles.

The source continued: ‘Priyanka had been trying to get her filming all done before the baby was due in April – but obviously this has completely thrown her plans.

‘There were rumors and speculation that the marriage was in trouble and that they might divorce, but that’s total nonsense. Nick and Priyanka are very happy together.’

‘Craving family life’

The actress had revealed earlier this month with Vanity Fair that she and Jonas will be definitely having a baby in the future without mentioning that they were already expecting.

Speaking in the February issue of Vanity Fair magazine – of which she is the cover star – Priyanka said: ‘They’re a big part of our desire for the future. By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens.’

When the interviewer mentioned the couple’s hectic work schedules, Priyanka quipped: ‘No, we’re not too busy to practice.’

The couple both agreed it’s best to focus entirely on their future child when they do become parents.

She added: ‘I’m okay with that. We’re both okay with that.’

While the Baywatch star has always been all about the ‘next job’, these days she is ‘craving family life’.

She explained: ‘My priority has always been the next job. I’m a very, very ambitious person. But I think the woman in me is craving balance.

‘I’m craving my family life. I’m craving being able to do things for the soul that I didn’t do because I was just ‘blinders on’ and working.’
