Reacting to the tweet, Barrister Ambreen Qureshi wrote on Twitter, “He was, is and always will be innocent until proven otherwise i.e. by court of law – not by self-proclaimed social media justices who become the judge, jury and executioners with zero information. What he said is factually and legally correct.”

Another lawyer of Ali Zafar in the defamation suit against Meesha Shafi, Umer Tariq Gill said, “Legal Advisor, South Asia, International Commission of Jurists, you must have read the fundamental principle of law that innocent unless and until proven guilty. But I know your legal approach and opinions varies from person to person. We can understand.”

In April 2018, singer and actor Meesha Shafi had made a statement on Twitter that Ali Zafar sexually harassed her on more than one occasion. Ali Zafar had filed a defamation suit against Shafi over the allegations.
