Massive corruption and financial irregularities have been unearthed in KP Agriculture and Livestock Department.

Massive corruption and financial irregularities have been unearthed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Agriculture and Livestock Department in terms of breeding and procurement of medicines.

The financial irregularities worth Rs1 billion has unearthed in the KP livestock and agriculture department in a report regarding the chicken plan (distribution of hens and roosters), breeding of cows, buffaloes and bulls.

According to the report, the national exchequer suffered a financial dent of Rs274.4 million in chicken plan and a loss worth over Rs97.4 million in the procurement of hens and roosters at high prices.

It emerged that the payment of Rs280 million was made from the national exchequer for the procurement of 444,504 hens and roosters, whereas, the financial loss worth Rs144.4 million was caused for the purchases of one rooster and five hens.

The report stated that the annual expenditures stood at Rs26.5 million in terms of cattle feed at the Harichand dairy farm, whereas, the salaries of the project employees for the veterinary dispensary established at a rented building in Swat were paid from the national exchequer worth Rs7,512,000 and Rs860,000 were paid to purchase plant and machinery without issuing a tender.

Moreover, the mobile veterinary clinics’ project for tribal districts initiated in December 2011 has also failed to achieve its targets which increased its cost from Rs18.5 million to Rs81 million.
