12,700 schools shifted to solar power system in Punjab, KP
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided solar power systems to the most backward areas in Pakistan that are beyond the reach of the national grid.
ISLAMABAD: 12,700 educational institutions in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been converted to solar energy in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), however, the provincial governments of Sindh and Balochistan failed to take the advantage of the program.

According to the ADB, “Thousands of schools in Pakistan’s Punjab province that used to have no electricity have been installed with solar power systems, vastly improving the learning environment for millions of students.”

Yong Ye, the country director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), said in a statement that the program would improve school attendance in the summer, enabling children to be educated and change their dreams into reality.
He said that most of these schools were far away from the national grid and connecting these thousands of schools to the national grid was a costly process. The project to convert 12,700 schools to solar power systems has cost $320 million.
The ADB country director that the attendance of children at the schools equipped with solar power systems also improved in the summer. The provincial governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have been benefited from the ADB program, but the governments of Balochistan and Sindh have failed to avail the program.
