The last-minute decision of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) chief Shujaat Hussain has surprised everyone that went in favour of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz to be reelected again as the Punjab Chief Minister in yesterday’s election.
The failure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and PML-Q’s joint candidate Pervaiz Elahi despite having a majority in the Punjab Assembly raised the question of whether it was an achievement of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari or a magic call from the institutions.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain clarified his position in a Twitter thread after Punjab Assembly’s episode, saying that Pervez Elahi was his candidate for the chief minister and always will be in the future but he will not accept him as a PTI candidate. PML-Q has had a strong relationship with the national institutions for 30 years and how he can support those who criticise institutions. He said that the stability in Pakistan is due to the institutions.

He suggested that the political leaders should keep their personal interests aside in this stage for getting rid of the crises, otherwise, the nationals and institutions will be divided into more ideologies and the country will fall into the hands of opportunists.
He added that political opposition should not be misinterpreted by personal opposition and all leaders should prioritise national security by forgetting everything and abandoning the politics of confrontation.
“Whoever gets the opportunity to come to power should go to political opponents. And go beyond consultation for the security and stability of the country,” he concluded.
