Bilawal Bhutto Zardari holds ‘key meetings’ in US before UNGA session
FM Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held some 'key meetings' in the US before attending the UNGA session in New York.
Foreign Minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held some ‘key meetings’ in the United States (US) before attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York.
Sources told News360 that FM Bilawal Bhutto Zardari flew from Uzbekistan to Washington and held some meetings with some personalities in the US prior to attending the UNGA session in New York.
Sources added that the key meetings were held with the US think tanks in Washington by FM Bilawal after the latest political developments in Pakistan which alerted PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
It emerged that Zardari got alert after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan intensified its political campaign against the incumbent government after holding meetings with former US diplomat Robin Raphel and the current US envoy David Bloom.
Citing the developments, Zardari sent Bilawal to Washington to hold meetings with the American think tanks in which they renewed commitments regarding the US backing to the incumbent government in Pakistan.
The meetings were aimed at receiving guarantees from the US think tanks to maintain their promises to back the coalition government for completing its tenure, said sources, adding that FM Bilawal was given assurance by the US think tanks to fulfil their promises.
After holding meetings in Washington, the foreign minister departed for New York to attend the UN General Assembly session which will also be addressed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
It is pertinent to mention here that Imran Khan is likely to give a protest call in the last week of September if the coalition government fails to unveil the date of early elections.
Sources told News360 that due to the declining economic situation of the country and the wrong policies of the government, Imran Khan took the final decision to give a protest call and started consultations with the PTI central leaders.
