Senior journalist, TV anchor and YouTuber Arshad Sharif died in a hit-and-run accident in Kenya's capital Nairobi. He reached the Kenyan capital from London three days ago.

Arshad Sharif is one of the renowned investigative journalists of Pakistan who covered major political events in the country for national and international media outlets.

He was awarded the ‘Pride of Performance’ by President Dr Arif Alvi in 2019 for his contributions to journalism. He also won the Current Affairs Anchor of the Year Award in 2018.

In 2016, he and Adeel Raja as a TV anchor and producer respectively won the 2016 Investigative Journalist of the Year Award for the current affairs programme of ARY News, Power Play. In 2012, he won Agahi Award.

The journalist started his career at Dawn News. Arshad Sharif was amongst the top TV anchors of the country who hosted Power Play on ARY News. He also performed duties as the news director at Aaj News and Dunya TV.

He left the country after the ouster of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s government and the transition of power to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government.

The Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar said Pakistan’s High Commission in Kenya was ascertaining information from the authorities.

Condolences poured in from colleagues and politicians on the journalist’s death.

President Dr Arif Alvi said on Twitter, “Arshad Sharif’s death Is a great loss to journalism and Pakistan. May his soul rest in peace and may his family, which includes his followers, have the strength to bear this loss.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “I am deeply saddened by the shocking news of journalist Arshad Sharif’s tragic death. May Allah SWT grant him a place in Heaven. My deep condolences and prayers for the bereaved family.”

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary-General Asad Umar said, “Absolutely shocked to hear of Arshad sharif’s death. Allah Jannat naseeb karay.”
