Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has given a vague reply to queries about the cases against slain senior journalist Arshad Sharif which led him to leave the country.
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has given a vague reply to queries about the cases against slain senior journalist Arshad Sharif which led him to leave the country.
Rana Sanaullah, while talking to the Geo News programme Capital Talk, was clueless about the cases filed against the slain senior journalist and said that he and Arshad Sharif discussed the cases and the government was ready to address his reservations.

Regarding the judicial commission on Arshad Sharif’s killing case, the interior minister said that he suggested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif order the investigators to issue the probe report at the earliest. He added that the judicial commission should give its report within 30 days.

To another question, he replied that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan was using Arshad Sharif’s killing case for his political gains. He said that Imran Khan should have publicised the death threats to the anchorperson if he knew about it. He added that Sharif did not indicate to leave the country.
To a question about Senator Azam Swati’s torture allegations, Sanaullah answered that the government is ready to hold an inquiry on Swati’s request besides taking action against the responsible officials.
Senior journalist, TV anchor and YouTuber Arshad Sharif was killed in Kenya’s capital Nairobi on Sunday night. Arshad Sharif is one of the renowned investigative journalists of Pakistan who covered major political events in the country for national and international media outlets.
Kenyan police said that the journalist was shot in the head and killed by police after he and his driver allegedly breached a roadblock. The police claimed that Sharif was shot dead in a ‘mistaken identity’ case.

The body of the slain journalist Arshad Sharif was flown to Islamabad early Wednesday via a private airline plane. The body was received by the family, journalists and political leaders at the Islamabad airport.

The funeral prayer of Arshad Sharif late will be offered at Faisal Mosque Islamabad while he will be laid to rest on Thursday in the federal capital.
