Areas of Sindh Still Submerged Following Months of Monsoon
The affectees decried the government had promised to drain out the water in 10 days however it has been three months areas are still inundated
WEB DESK: A number of areas in different districts of Sindh province are still submerged in the rainwater accumulated during heavy monsoon spells a few months ago.
There are still many areas where the lands are still flooded and structures have water inside them.
The farmers were not able to plant wheat crops in different districts of Sindh including Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, and Hathro owing to land still being submerged.
The irrigation department of the Sindh government has not yet drained out water from the areas despite clear instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.
They said that they were unable to plant crops as the condition was still unsuitable.
The affectees of different areas of Sindh submerged accused that the irrigation department was busy saving lands owned by the political leaders only.

Sources told News360 that PPP leaders from Umerkot changed the direction of water towards other areas to save their lands.
Owing to this, the roads leading to Umerkot washed away too.
The non-existence of storm drains and a proper draining channel added insult to the injury.
The affectees said that the Sindh government did not keep its promise. They said that heavy rainfall in August and September destroyed their crops.
Even now, they could not plant wheat crop as the lands are not able to be cultivated while the Sindh government was only thinking about the lands of elected representatives.
Sindh Culture, Tourism, Antiquities Minister Syed Sardar Shah said that the rains this year were unprecedented. He added that many areas of interior Sindh were without storm drains for ages.
“I am monitoring and trying to complete the drainage work at the earliest”, the minister said.
Heavy monsoon spells in August and September lashed out different parts of Sindh this year causing flooding in different parts of the province.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to come forward and help flood victims.
On September 22, the provincial government chief had ordered the related departments to drain out accumulated rainwater in 15 days.
The districts including Umerkot and Mirpur Khas were focused. However, the affectees still await fulfillment of commitment by the Sindh government.
