Arshad Sharif murder case: FIR increases suspicions, distrust

The First Information Report of the slain senior journalist Arshad Sharif murder case was registered over the government’s complaint without consulting his family nor even a request was made to receive a copy of the FIR.
Legal experts said that Arshad Sharif was not an orphan then why the FIR was filed over the government’s complaint while his mother is also alive and two widows are also present. They said that the FIR has no legal grounds.
Yesterday, in light of the orders of the Supreme Court (SC), the FIR was registered at the Ramna police station of Islamabad. Three names and unidentified persons have been nominated in the FIR filed by SHO Ramna police station.
In the First Information Report (FIR), Waqar Ahmed, Khurram Ahmed and Tariq Wasi and other unidentified persons have been named.
The government ignored the wish of the mother in the FIR. His mother had said that my son has been murdered and the FIR will also be filed with my will.
Legal experts highlighted several legal aspects of not registering the FIR of the murder of slain journalist Arshad Sharif against the will of his family. They also spotted flaws in the FIR.
Renowned lawyer and SC advocate Azhar Siddiqui shared a copy of the FIR on Twitter and highlighted several legal aspects.
Describing the FIR as malicious, he wrote that the Arshad Sharif murder case’s FIR was registered maliciously by the government without adding Section 7 ATA and Section 109 TPC.

He further wrote that the names of the real accused in this case were hidden. A case could be registered in Pakistan under Section 188, he added.
Another lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq objected to the FIR and wrote on his Twitter that no request has been made from the family of the slain journalist nor has anyone contacted. He said that the FIR is not admissible.
He further wrote, “This matter will be kept in the Supreme Court – Shaheed Arshad Sharif is not an orphan whose case is registered in the official complaint – stop the malice now.”

Analysts said that the government is also playing politics on the issue of Arshad Sharif’s murder, and the rulers are trying all the tricks to save themselves. They said that justice is not being done as long as this government is in power.
Analysts further said that it seems that only the process is being completed by filing an FIR, just as in the case of the assassination attempt on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has been filed.
