A plea bargainer cannot hold public office, Supreme Court

Chairman PTI Imran Khan said ECP has left no stone unturned to make this country a Banana Republic while referring to 2016-17 decision of Supreme Court

The Election Commission of Pakistan has appointed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the voluntary plea bargainer in the Haris Steel Mills case, as caretaker chief minister of Punjab, while the Supreme Court in its order in 2016-17 had said that the plea bargainer should not hold any public office. 

It should be noted that the Supreme Court of Pakistan declared in the Spontaneous Notice Case No. 17/2016 that in the case of a plea bargain, a person cannot hold any public office at the federal or provincial level or in any state institution.

Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan has reacted by sharing a copy of the plea bargain deal of Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi on social media website Twitter.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan shared a message on Twitter and wrote that “Muslim League (N) always has a long history of selecting its own umpires.”

Imran Khan further wrote, “But it is unbelievable how the Election Commission chose a rival of PTI as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, when that post is for a neutral person.”

The Tehreek-e-Insaf chief writes that “any person who voluntarily plea bargains cannot hold public office at the federal or provincial level, nor in any state institution.”

Imran Khan went on to write that “ECP has left no stone unturned to make Pakistan a banana state, making a mockery of our democracy. I will hold a press conference tomorrow to expose the whole myth.” can go.”
