President asks ECP to give dates for elections in Punjab and KPK

President Arif Alvi has written a letter to Election Commission of Pakistan, asking the ECP to immediately announce election schedule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, so that general elections can be held in a timely manner. Speculative propaganda can be stopped.
According to the details, President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that Election Commission should immediately announce date of elections, the constitution does not allow delay. President Dr. Arif Alvi has written a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja to hold the elections.
According to letter, Dr. Arif Alvi says that according to Election Act 2017, Election Commission of Pakistan should immediately announce dates of provincial assembly elections.

In the letter written by the President of the State, it has been said that the elections should be announced so that speculation based on propaganda can be stopped. In his letter, the President has also referred to the dissolution of the Assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the text of the letter, it is said that holding elections according to the constitution is the primary duty of the Election Commission, if the commission fails to fulfill its duties, the commission will be responsible for violation of the constitution. According to Article 218 (3) of the Constitution, it is the duty of the Election Commission to conduct fair and transparent elections.
In his letter, the President referred to the dissolution of the Provincial Assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and also referred to Articles 2A, 105, 112 of the Constitution.
In his letter, Dr. Arif Alvi emphasized that the dissolution of the Provincial Assembly can be done under Article 105 or Article 112. In both cases, the assembly elections must be held within 90 days of the dissolution. Such a mandate is further reinforced by Article 224(2) which mandates holding of elections within 90 days.
In his letter, the President also referred to Article 42 of the Constitution, which clarifies the oath and constitutional duties of the Election Commission.
President Dr. Arif Alvi has written the letter to the Election Commission in the background of the recent statements of the ministers of the current federal government as well as the governors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Baseless explanations have been given regarding the delay in the elections.
President Arif Alvi has expressed his belief that the country’s conditions are not such that the holding of elections should be delayed or postponed. Conducting elections on time is the need of the hour for the long-term setup of democracy.
