The Lahore High Court has lifted the ban on direct speeches and statements of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and suspended the PEMRA notification.

The Lahore High Court has suspended the ban imposed on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan by PEMRA for broadcasting his speeches and statements.

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza of Lahore High Court heard the request of PEMRA regarding the ban on Imran Khan’s speeches and statements on TV channels.

During the hearing, the court remarked that whether the head of a political party can be banned in this way, it is against the freedom of expression.

In Imran Khan’s petition, the position was taken that banning statements and speeches on TV channels is a violation of fundamental constitutional rights and should be declared null and void.

Pemra’s lawyer took a position in the court that the matter cannot be heard here, a full bench should be formed for it. The court is requested that this is not the jurisdiction.

The court had reserved the decision after hearing the arguments, which after some time, the court suspended the notification banning the broadcast of Imran Khan’s speech and statements.

The court sent Imran Khan’s application to the full bench for further hearing and issued notices to the parties including Pemra and adjourned the proceedings till March 13.
