Staff level agreement with Pakistan will be signed soon, IMF

Board of International Financial institution will approve staff level agreement, hope that Pakistan will continue to make progress in reforms in various sectors and complete IFI program on time, Director Jihad Azur's statement after virtual meeting with Finance Minister

IMF Director for the Middle East and Central Asia, Jihad Azour, expressed his confidence that staff-level agreement would be signed soon, after which International Financial Institution Board would approve agreement.

He hoped that Pakistan would continue its progress on reforms in various sectors and complete IMF program on time. IMF will play a positive role in bringing economic stability to Pakistan.

He expressed these views during a virtual meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. The Finance Minister thanked Director Jihad Azur and his IMF team for their support in completing the 9th review.

Earlier, Treasurer Ishaq Dar participated in the meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank through a video link. According to the statement of the Ministry of Finance, the meeting discussed the progress in the ongoing program of the International Monetary Fund, besides the IMF mission. There was a discussion regarding the visit to Pakistan and the implementation of the previous measures.

The Finance Minister said that all preliminaries for the ninth review under the Extended Fund Facility have been completed and the Government of Pakistan is fully committed to fulfilling its commitments to the International Monetary Fund.

The Finance Minister said that due to important domestic engagements, the Prime Minister instructed him to stay in Pakistan, and on the instructions of the Prime Minister, he had to cancel his visit to Washington to participate in the International Monetary Fund meeting.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Finance, the Finance Minister informed about the economic challenges facing the country and the vision of the government to bring macroeconomic stability in the country.

The finance ministry said that the finance minister informed about the completion of all the preliminary steps for the 9th review and said that he is determined to fulfill all the obligations agreed with the IMF.
