SC orders State Bank to release funds directly to Election Commission for Punjab election

Chamber hearing in Supreme Court on issue of funds for elections in Punjab, Judges expressed anger over not releasing funds for elections, Attorney General faces tough questions, court order will have to be implemented, Supreme Court

Supreme Court Acting Governor State Bank Ordered the Election Commission to release funds directly for elections in Punjab.

An in-chamber hearing was held under chairmanship of the Chief Justice on the issue of release of funds for elections in Punjab.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar were also present in the in-chamber hearing chaired by the Chief Justice. Special Secretary of Finance and Additional Secretary of Finance also appeared before the 3-member bench.

Apart from this, Attorney General, Secretary Election Commission, Ministry of Finance, and State Bank officials also appeared in the chamber.

According to private TV sources, during the hearing, other officers accompanying the Acting Governor of the State Bank were sent out of the chamber, while the Special and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and other officials were also sent out during the hearing. Attorney General, Secretary, and DG Law Election Commission were present in the hearing.

Sources say that the judges expressed their indignation for not releasing the funds for the election and made it clear that the court order will have to be followed. According to the sources, during the hearing, the Attorney General had to face tough questions for presenting the government’s position.

The Attorney General said that the federal government has implemented the order of the Supreme Court on April 4, on the order of the Supreme Court, the bill for the money from the federal consolidated funds was submitted to the parliament. Rejected, the government cannot ask the State Bank to release funds after the bill is rejected by Parliament.

According to sources, after hearing the position of the Attorney General, the Supreme Court ordered the Acting Governor State Bank to release funds directly to the Election Commission.
