Meesha Shafi Is Supremo in Vilification Drive Against Ali Zafar

The Aya Lariye singer visited Pakistan for a song recording but was unavailable for the court hearings

Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar case has been a hot potato since 2018 for their fans and Pakistani media. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday has found singer Meesha Shafi and eight others responsible for running a defamatory social media campaign against actor and singer Ali Zafar.

A challan was submitted by FIA in Lahore court to start proceedings against Shafi and others as they were unable to provide any witness in their support.

The challan stated that “During the course of investigation so far Meera Shafi alias Meesha Shafi, Iffat Omar, Maham Javaid, Leena Ghani, Haseemus Zaman, Fariha Ayub, Syed Faizan Raza, Humna Raza and Ali Gul Pir have been found guilty in this case as per available oral and documentary evidences. However, the complainant recorded his statement in favour of Hamna Raza to the extent of accepting her apology, thus she is not required in the investigation furthermore.”

FIA said that singer Meesha Shafi has made false defamatory allegations of sexual harassment against Zafar.

Meesha took to her Twitter in April 2018 to accuse Ali Zafar of harassing her on “more than one” occasion.

A case was filed against Meesha at the FIA’s cyber-crime wing by Ali Zafar for running a vilification campaign against him on social media.

Ali filed the complaint that many social media accounts and members of civil society are posting defamatory material against him on social media that is causing damage to his name and career.

Shafi, actor Iffat Omar, Maham Javaid, Leena Ghani, Haseemus Zaman, Fariha Ayub, Syed Faizan Raza, Hamna Raza and rapper Ali Gul Pir have been named in the FIR.

However, Hamna Raza, later apologized and thus was not required in the investigation.

Ex-Director FIA Ammar Jaffery told News 360 that as per the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) defamation on social media against a person is a crime in Pakistan.

“FIA has already declared that allegations against Ali Zafar were false and further proceedings are recommended to the trial court”, Jaffery added.
