Nepra’s suicide attack on K-electric consumers, electricity rate increased by Rs 3.70/unit

According to Nepra officials, with current increase, K.Electric will collect an additional Rs 5,471,000,000 from consumers

Due to inflation, the cost of electricity was increased by 3 rupees 70 paise per unit for electricity to the people, while the cost of electricity was increased by 34 paise more for electricity consumers across the country.

The National Electric and Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has imposed an additional burden of 5.47 billion rupees on the citizens of Karachi through K Electric. The increase is due to the monthly fuel adjustment for March. The increase will not be applicable to Lifeline customers of Elekrak.

The Nepra authority will issue a detailed decision later. Nepra held a hearing on monthly fuel price adjustment for K Electric. K Elekrak generated electricity from its sources at Rs 26 44 paise per unit in March.

According to the officials of Elekrak, the cost of electricity received from the federal government was 9 rupees 50 paise per unit. The price of LNG from Sui Southern increased by 14%.

The price of LNG received from Pakistan LN increased by 20%. The price of electricity received from CPPA increased by 41%.

According to officials, K-Electric has added 1900 MW of electricity to its system, improving the power generation capacity by 19%.

Chairman Nepra said that during the last 5 to 7 years, K. Elekrak has not shown much improvement. Power generation on imported fuel has become very expensive. As electricity becomes expensive, dependence on alternative and cheaper sources is increasing.

Nepra also held a hearing on monthly fuel price adjustments for electricity distribution companies apart from K.Electric. Nepra increased the cost of electricity by 34 paise per unit.

The increase was made in March’s monthly fuel adjustment. There will be an additional burden of 2 billion 90 crore rupees on electricity consumers. The increase will not be applicable to Lifeline, K.Electronic customers. Electricity consumers will have to make additional payments in May bills.

According to CPPA officials, the burden of LNG that we cannot use falls on the electricity consumers. Member Nepra Rafiq Shaikh inquired if any letter was written to completely end load shedding in March. Officials said that the CPPA had written in March not to do load shedding. CPPA had called for full utilization of LNG.
