Major terror network busted in Karachi

Security forces uncovered a major terrorist network in Karachi on Wednesday leading to the arrest of 17 highly-wanted terrorists.

The terrorists had been linked to the TTP from 2007 to 2014 and had been involved in multiple major terror incidents in the city. According to reports, the arrested men include a senior terrorist commander as well.

The terrorist ring was busted after an intelligence-based operation. They were reported to have involvement in terrorist incidents as far as Swat and Malakand.

The group was also involved in extorition and the money was reportedly sent to the upper leadership of the TTP currently hiding in Afghanistan.

The security forces also believe that the group had harboured suicide bombers in the past and was also linked to target killing and sectarian conflicts.

The action comes as part of a wider crackdown against target killing and extortion in Karachi.

The operation comes days after the Pakistan Army killed seven terrorists in Zhob.

ISPR said that the terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation in the Sambaza sector in Zhob, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
